Greece

It’s an amazing world, I have to say that. The sea is unbearably blue here and I spend as much time as I can on the “open deck” which is what we call the crew deck. We can be there in our civies rather than the uniform and relax under the sky. Yesterday when lots of people were seasick (just one morning out of a month so far), I was able to sneak out and let my stomach know why it was feeling that way – it somehow really helped to see the big swells and whitecaps. Arrrrr.

I love my roomies – Veronica, seen here with me in Mykonos. She’s from Uruguay. Stephanie is in with us, too. She’s from Canada. They tried to move her to a different room so there would be more space in ours, but we got along so well, if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.

Me in my bunk.  Yes, I took the top bunk since the younger women tend to stay out later.  Every night.

Anyway, back to Mykonos, I’ve been there 3 times so far. In the port area, it looks like this everywhere:

Little, windy paths through dazzling white (what if you want to paint your house “Evening Sage?” Don’t live here). There are, of course, oodles of places a tourist might part with her Euros here, but also lots just to wander through and see.

And, of course, Paradise beach which is far from heaven. The photo doesn’t show the booming music, bikini people dancing on the bar and naked people wandering about drinking too much.

And Veronica lounging briefly on one of the beach-side beds. I think massages are offered there but we didn’t see any.

Santorini, to the right, perched atop its cliff. You can either hike up the long, switchback sidewalk, ride the gondola or ride the donkeys. I opted for the gondola the first time, and a friendly mule the second and walked back down. It’s lovely there, unbelievable vistas. I wandered to the back side of tourist-ville and found a “campground.” It’s quiet and actually a cool idea – they have little quansett sp? shaped cabins, big enough to stand up in and with too little bunks in each. Cheap housing in a cool place with pool and internet. I’ve seen them in several of the ports.

Anyway, my roomies are yelling at me to come along and stop being a loser so I'd better go

I’ll do a different post with Istanbul and some other pics from Italy.
